Perfect start for the Australians in their Women’s World Teams Championship Title Defence

Australia have had the perfect start to their World Women’s Teams Championship title defence in the French city of Nimes on Monday with consecutive three-love wins over Austria and Canada.

After beating Austria in the morning session, the Australians saw off the sterner challenge from Canada in the evening.

Rachael Grinham, Donna Urquhart and Sarah Cardwell all enjoyed straight games wins against Austria to get the defending champions away without any problems.

Grinham beat Austrian number one Birgit Coufal 11-3, 11-3, 11-2, Urquhart downed Judith Gradnitzer 11-4, 11-3, 11-1 and Cardwell was too good for Ines Winkler 11-1, 11-1, 11-1.

Against Canada, Grinham downed Samantha Cornett 10-12, 11-8, 11-3, 11-3, Urquhart beat Alexandra Norman 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 and Melody Francis saw off Susannah King 4-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-5.
