Sarah-Jane Perry
claimed her third WSA World Tour title at the weekend following an impressive run as seventh seed in the WSA Tour10 Pyramid International in Tuckahoe, New York.

The 22-year-old from Warwickshire, England, defeated the No.2 seed Kanzy Emad El-Defrawy in the final of the event, after also dispatching first and third seeded opponents.

A strong start against German Katja Amir in the first round saw the British U23 National Champion win in straight games, before a confident four-game win against No.3 seed and fellow Englishwoman Lauren Briggs, propelled Perry into the semi’s.

There she faced the tournament favourite, Denmark’s Line Hansen, who was yet to drop a game in her opening two matches.  Perry claimed a confident four-game game victory against her opponent, positioned 20 world ranking places above her.

She progressed to play Egyptian teenager and No.2 seed Kanzy Emad El-Defrawy in Sunday’s final.  The eighteen-year-old had experienced a similar run, beating qualifier Adel Weir in three games in round one, followed by a four-game win over Lauren Selby in the quarter-finals and straight games over No.4 seed Siyoli Waters in the semi’s.

The Egyptian continued her run in to the final, taking a confident first game.  Perry dug in however, drawing level in a close second game, before claiming an even closer third, 11-9.  Momentum was clearly with the lower seeded player after winning two narrow games, and with the teenager looking dejected, Perry closed out the contest in a confident fourth.

Perry’s largest WSA World Tour title to-date is the third of her career, and she tweeted to followers after her win: “Pleased to win 3-1 today… Next challenge: get to Mexico when there’s a hurricane warning!”  The Brit hopes to continue her good form at the Abierto Mexicano de Raquetas in Toluca, Mexico, where she will again be seeded 7th for the event.  She is due to face Nicolette Fernandes in round one.
